Met Gala! China Through The Looking Glass.. Plus inspired looks...

I can't wait to get my hands on the newest Edition of Vogue that features the themed fashion from the annual Met Gala. This year's Gala drew inspiration from the exotic looks of the Orient. When I think of Western fashion inspired by Asian influence, I covet mandarin colours, black ,red and gold, and exotic kimono's..or floral patterns influenced by porcelian or wallpapers. Obviously, if you are visiting New York, checking out the Met exhibition, China, Through The Looking Glass...is a MUST! There is apparently fashion on loan from Beijing's Palace Museum..also showcases of ancient artifacts and fashion by western designers who were inspired by the mystery of Asia.

Bee Shaffer, daughter of Vogue Editor in Cheif Anna Wintour, wore this gown by Alexander McQueen

Sarah Jessica Parker went all out glam with this fire inspired head ornament.

Below..some obviously more wearable options.....

MODERN DAY SAYURI

Remember how beautiful Zhang Ziyi was in Memoirs of a Geisha? Channel Sayuri with a pastel pink paper parasol and floral barrettes.

WEARABLE KIMONOS

Below, a modern take on the Kimono. These are great over jeans and a simple tee, I often wear longer versions with a slinky sleep tank for extra coverage. I own like three versions of the Yours Clothing Kimonos, they are so beautiful and inexpensive and very wearble.

BLUE FLOWERS POTTERY

Vintage Valentino 1968... based on Chinese white pottery called "Blue flowers" designate white pottery and porcelain decorated under the glaze with a blue pigment.
