Boho....trend that's back...takes me back to College..

They say everything old will be new again... Boho is on trend this year and I'm buying back in. Boho Chic was all the craze in the 1990's and hit's it's peak in early 2005, it was associated particularly with actress Sienna Miller and model Kate Moss.

When I was in College I lived in a tiny little room in a house with two other girls at the corner of Garth street and Columbia drive. My room was crazy mess of retro and boho...I had silk red curtains from a store called Matra in Toronto, three lava lamps, purple, red and orange. My closet was seperated from the rest of the room by a sparkly beaded curtain...my room looked like something Barbara Eden would have felt comfortable chilling in awaiting Major Nelson to rub the lamp.

Everthing I wore was knitted with hemp, and my shirts and dresses had to be a shade of red, or purple or ox blood, woven with gold thread...I piled on the wooden bangle braclets and necklaces. My favourite pair of boots were brown suede and covered with fringeand metal beads that looked like bottlecaps. Even thought Britney Spears was making waves with her new Single..Baby Hit me one More time ....my boyfriend and I were fighting against the machine of popular culture and were zoned out to old acid rock, like the Doors, or getting Comfortbly Numb with Pink Floyd.. We'd lay back at night and drift of to Jim Morrison's, Rider's on the Storm, watching the lava lamps dance away in the dark.

It was a time when life was simple, and I didn't really have a care in the world. I was directionless and foolish...and it was great.

I found myself picking up the odd boho piece in stores lately, because it reminds me of the time I was 18 years old and reeked of patchouli oil and incense. There's something about the style that's so "me."

Just the commercial machine seem to be rebooting everything lately, the boho trend has rewind brain..to 1999.
