I didn't see alot of dresses this year on the Emmy Red Carpet that rocked my world except for one, Christina Hendricks blew me away. Her sexy, heavily armoured/ beaded dress had a almost egyptian/warrior-like feel. She was a goddess.
Octavia Spencer's gown was completely predictable and the fabric didn't look luxe enough for me. The dress looked like someone draped a red sheet over a t-shirt. She has worn this exact style in every colour ever since she recieved rave reviews for a slightly different variation in white by designer Tadashi Shoji for the 2012 Oscars.
I give her credit for one thing, she goes with what works best for her. She knows that the draping of fabric is both elegant and flattering and she wants a cap sleeve. She did pick a dress in a bold red colour which was a big departure from her usual bridal looks. I wished she had shown a little more skin... I felt the lavender Golden Globes dress was just beautiful on her because of the v-neck. The colour of the Emmy dress also seems to blend into the red carpet..(I'm sure that's a fashion faux pas in someone's book) Below is a beautiful red dress by Sydney's closet. It's long, has the draping in the front, but I think the cold shoulder design is a little more modern and a little more fresh. PS the name of this dress is the Red Carpet Glam Gown, go figure!
Embellished dress: Christina Henricks and Ariel Winter
One of my favourite dresses from the Emmy's was Ariel Winter's HBO afterparty dress. I found myself struck smitten with the vertical beading that creates the illusion of curves. Obviously, the dress of the night was Christina Henrick's Naeem Khan Long-Sleeved Embellished Gown from the Fall 2015 Collection. She was, in my opinion the best dressed woman on the Red Carpet. Her dress had the same kind of curve creating illusion beading...not that she needed any help propping up her hourglass figure. Below, I found a gunmetal dress (it also comes in nude) that was created with the same theme in mind. The dress is available online at Macy's or Nordstrom's and comes in plus sizes.
DANIELLE BROOKS/ CHRISTIAN SIRIANO
Designer Christian Siriano made this custom dress for OITNB star Danielle Brooks. I adored the breezy fabric and admired Danielle for not shying away from colour. I wasn't really "taken" by the combinations of blues and yellow, but the dress was fun. Christian Siriano has never been shy about his use of colour and by his standards this dress is pretty tame, I remember some of his looks on the catwalk while he competed on Project Runway's 4th season. Some garments were constructed from artifical hair and giant bird feathers! Christian loves to experiment and he's become a fan favorite on the red carpet. He launched his namesake "Christian Siriano" collection in 2008, which brought in revenue of over $1.2 million by 2010 the line was bringing in an estimated $5 million by 2012. If you want something with flair, and beading, and feathers and experimental fabrics...be prepared...he has signed with plus size clothier Lane Bryant to release a Spring 2016 dress collection.
REBEL WILSON/ MTV AWARDS
Rebel Wilson hit the Red Carpet for the MTV Awards in this stylish, black, pink and silver dress. I loved this look, that harkened back to the 80's with mile high pompadour hair with fuchsia dipped ends. The best part about this look is that the dress is sold online at Eloquii and it only costs $40 bucks! Rebel really has a great fashion sense and she takes risks and has a youthful vision. She's signed up to release her own plus size line for Torrid. She loves Torrid because the clothing chain is, in her words, "relevant and dope." Her new line is set to hit store shelves this November, and she's also planning a collection for Spring 2016.
Emmy's worst looks of the night.
I hate to pick on Melissa McCarthy again. Remember the dress Scarlet O'Hara wore when she was mourning the death of her first husband, Charles Hamilton? The pic is below. Covered from head to toe in black...
I wonder if Melissa McCarthy is also in mourning something? This dress is a disaster...it's all of the plus fashion, antiquated rules, wrapped into one cliche checklist.
She's drowning in a black, overly full skirt, long sleeves.... I don't get it. Sweater on top, ball gown on the bottom? She is so transfixed with being covered at all times....it shows in her new plus size fashion line too. She lacks confidence and it's so apparent with the way she dresses. Break out of your shell girl! Can you imagine how flattering this dress would have looked with a v-neck and with her hair pulled up in a chic updo?
I have a habit of trying to fixing clothes that bother me...so here's the dress with a V-neck, it's already a huge improvement. You're welcome.
