I know the term "Plus" has a lot of negative connotations. Does it mean fat? Lardy? Does it mean super-sized? Does it mean disgusting? It used to mean all of those things to me.
I used to be turned off by the name of " ADDITION" Elle. The word meant addition while plus meant "not normal. " I didn't want to walk around the mall with a bag of clothes from a plus -size store. Let's be honest... it was pretty ridiculous. It's obvious I'm not making my purchases in regular sized stores. I'm a size 22. No matter what designer I wear or what the tag on the dress..nothing is going to change that. It's ok to be a big girl. So I embraced the term ...who cares. Maybe "Plus" just means .......extra bodacious! I've accepted I'm a plus size and it doesn't really fill me with shame anymore. I'm not skulking around, darting in and out of plus size stores in hopes I'm not recognized. I'm Plus and I'm awesome!
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
This is a great read in the latest addition of Teen Vogue... it reminded me of my blog a few months back, when I admitted, in the Huffington Post, "Why I had quit my diet."
Check out this month's issue of Teen Vogue.
I think this op-ed has a great message for young girls...hell even old girls like me. It's worth the read. follow the link and check it out.
