Be a Mix Master

When you decide to buy some new pieces, keep in mind how you can layer that staple piece into as many different outfits and looks as you can. Layers of leather, chiffon, different lengths, different textures, different patterns and statement necklaces can take a plain look and amp it up . Basics can be boring, design an outfit, make your fashion clever and unique.

(Above) Jay is wearing a grey pencil skirt with a tulle overlay, layered over a white tank top with a dove grey cable knit sweater. Necklace, assorted coloured pearls and black and gray chain necklace. Kitten heel shoes in gunmetal glitter. This outfit is a play in texture, tulle and knit, in a soft colour scheme.

Find some great statement skirts. I love this ruffle skirt by Kiyonna, available at www.kiyonna.com

it comes in three colours, red, white and black and can be worn in a myriad of different styles.

I love seeing textures like lace mized with loud patterns like plaid. Here's a great pairing from Torrid. www.torrid.com. Prices listed are American. For Canadian prices, check them out in-store.

Skin is in: Show little peeks of it through transparent fabric. It helps take a top that look dowdy when full lined to full-on sexy/ modern. This is another look by Torrid. A ripped up boyfriend Jean, jewel encrusted heels, sexy strappy crisscross bra, and a transparent chiffon top. This look calls for alot of attitude.

Great examples on how to wear a trendy tulle skirt. I like to keep it out of prom dress territory by mixing a soft tulle with a cropped denim jacket or somthing tough, like a leather jacket, a rocker T-shirt and a great statement necklace.
